In this vast IT era, if you look at the available number of data centres that are used by the whole world, can you imagine how much of energy is being used throughout the day? The answer is a huge number right? And when we consider about how the corporate get it? How much of energy is properly used? And how much of energy is wasted? Most of the companies cannot give the answer. But Google has the given the answer.

In detail

Google officially announced on 2018-04-05 that it acquires enough renewable energy to match 100 percent of its power consumption in 2017.A great mile stone achieved by google on this day. Just think how awesome is. For every percentage of polluting energy, they buy a corresponding percentage of renewable.

Urz Holzle, Google’s senior vice president for technical infrastructure announced this success in this day.“In 2017, across the world, for every kilowatt hour of electricity we consumed, we purchased a kilowatt hour of renewable energy from a wind or solar farm that was specifically for Google. This makes us the first public Cloud, and company of our size, to have achieved this feat”, he added.

And also he added that “We say that we “matched” our energy usage because it is not possible to power a company of our scale by 100 percent renewable energy”

Today, Google have contracts to purchase three gigawatts of output from renewable energy projects. No any other corporate buys more renewable energy than Google do. Up to now (2018-04-06) Google’s renewable energy contracts have led to over $3 billion new capital investment around the world.

Google is building new data centres, because the demand for the Google products grows, so does the energy used. They are planning to constantly use renewable resources for their energy consumption

Google hope that, one day it will acquire all of the energy it uses from renewable resources. “This program is the first step for us, but a milestone in our race to a carbon free future”
