WhatsApp! One of the most popular instant free messaging apps in the modern world! It is said that 4 out of 5 smart phone users use WhatsApp as their main mode of communication to keep in touch with their loved ones. It has already shaped the lives of billions of people in a way that they feel like they cannot live without this app. However it is reported that a comparatively high number of WhatsApp users were banned during the past year due to various reasons. According to a research done, majority of these WhatsApp users who have been banned, had not had a clear idea that they had been misusing WhatsApp. Hence the tech enthusiasts had come up with some reasons for why WhatsApp users might get banned on WhatsApp. Those reasons are as follows.

  1. Sending illegal or threatening messages

WhatsApp has a pre-defined set of terms which are meant to be associated with threatening and illegal issues. By a chance if WhatsApp detects these terms over and over in a chat, WhatsApp will suspend that user’s account.

2.  Creating a fake account of someone

Creating fake accounts is a common way of misusing most of the messaging apps as well as social media platforms. However impersonating someone is an illegal act in law. Therefore if fake accounts are reported, WhatsApp takes immediate action to get them banned.

3. Using WhatsApp Plus

WhatsApp Plus is a third party app similar to WhatsApp. The company clearly states in its website that WhatsApp Plus doesn’t have any connection with WhatsApp, since it was not developed or authorized by WhatsApp. It is said that the code of WhatsApp Plus is not guaranteed safe. Hence WhatsApp tend to suspend WhatsApp accounts of WhatsApp Plus users.

4. Sending too many messages to users who are not on your contact list

Sometimes some users might not add a person’s contact number in to his contact list due to various reasons. WhatsApp has the ability to identify if a user is sending many messages to an unsaved contact number. Then it will make it a reason to suspend that user’s account. This is reported as a common way of misusing WhatsApp since this is not a fact that many users will pay attention of.

5. Using WhatsApp to send viruses or malware to other users

Some people to try to send viruses and malware with the use of WhatsApp. WhatsApp strictly prohibits sending viruses or malware to other users using its platform. It can detect most of the viruses and malware, and if detected that specific user account will be banned.

6. Trying to hack WhatsApp servers or to spy on someone

If WhatsApp detects a user trying to hack its servers, spy on someone, or trying to alter or modify WhatsApp’s code, it will be a reason for WhatsApp to suspend that users’s account.

Above are some common instances where WhatsApp users will knowingly or unknowingly misuse WhatsApp. Apart from that getting blocked by many users and getting reported by a number of users will also be reasons for getting banned on WhatsApp without any kind of prior notice. However if you have clearly read and accepted WhatsApp’s Terms of Service you might already know these facts. It says “We may ban accounts if we believe the account activity is in violation of our Terms of Service. Per our Terms of Service, we may retain the right to ban you without notification”.

The problem is most of the users just agree with the Terms of Service even without reading them. Due to this reason many never know that they have been misusing WhatsApp until their WhatsApp accounts are banned. With these facts in mind, we should try to take the maximum use of WhatsApp in the correct manner. Then no one will be in trouble and we will be safe on WhatsApp as well.
