Skype is one of the most famous telecommunication software in the world and it has more than 300 million monthly users. Recently Microsoft announced that they are going to bring end-to-end encryption to Skype. Extra protection is always important when we share more sensitive things through the internet. An end-to-end encrypted communication software is more secure. When using an end-to-end encrypted software, no one can see the things you share in the conversation rather than you and the other party.

This end-to-end encryption feature is called Private Conversations. Using Private Conversations feature, you can get end-to-end encrypted Skype audio calls and send text messages or multimedia messages like images, audios or videos. But this feature is still not available for Skype video calls. Presently, this feature is only available for individual conversations and not supported for group conversations.

The preview of new end-to-end encrypted Private Conversations feature is now available for all Skype Insiders. Skype insiders program allow Skype users to test new features before they are rolled out to everyone. Therefore the people who use Skype version 8.13.76.8(beta version) on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, or iOS can test this new feature now. Skype insiders can start personal conversations with the other individuals with the same Insider build.

To start a Private Conversation:

  1. Tap or click the + icon.
  2. Select New Private Conversation.
  3. Select the contact you want to start the Private Conversation with.

Or simply select “New Private Conversation” from the menu on the contact profile.

Then you will be taken to a new conversation with them and an invitation will be sent to that selected contact asking to accept your invitation. And this invitation is only valid for 7 days.

You can begin your private conversation after that person accepts your invitation. And the private conversation is only available to the specific device you choose to send the invitation. If you need to change the device then you have to send another invitation using that new device.

New private conversations feature will be available for all Skype users in near future.
