Free 10 minute drone delivery trial in Finland – Alphabet’s Wing
Wing, the drone delivery startup owned by Alphabet has made announcement about their free trial service in Finland next year. This company will provide 10 minutes deliveries of items of 1.5Kg or lesser for up to 10Km in nation’s capital Helsinki starting in spring 2019,though company is intending to charge for them if a full commercial service launches.
Thousands of items including home hardware, medicine and burritos are delivering in company’s existing trial in Australia. But wing hasn’t decided yet to pack what in its Finish drones. So, they are currently taking suggestions on its website. Range of food options, emergency essentials like ice scraper or diapers and pain killers are included in potential items.
Wing claims that their drones are environment friendly as they are battery powered rather than ground alternatives. In addition to this they offer quicker delivery for cheap prices to both businesses and customers. According to the company 12 percent of Greenhouse gas emission is because of road transportation and it also states that its deliveries have 22 percent lower carbon footprint than traditional alternatives.
Amazon, wing’s biggest drone-delivery rival has been testing “prime Air” delivery in UK since 2016. But, either Amazon or wing did not conduct any tests in USA yet because of that country’s strict aviation rules. An effort to deliver Starbucks in USA by wing was wound down after a couple of months whereas because of its delivery of Sunscreen to a robotic conference in 2017 Amazon has been quiet.
